Weather - one of the most important safety elements is getting a forecast. While on the water make sure to have a weather radio which can pick up these forecasts that are broadcasted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Additionally the Marquette NWS office has recorded forecasts at 906-475-5212.

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore (PRNL) - offers some amazing scenery. Sea caves and sea arches are scattered about but the main draw is the painted rocks. Water seeping through the ground then runs over the sandstone cliffs leaving behind colorful panels.
Grand Island National Recreation Area - Grand Island is the largest island on Superior’s south shore. Incredible sand beaches, 200’ high cliffs, bays and sea caves greet the paddler.
Hiawatha National Forest - http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/forests/hiawatha/ - National Forest whose public lands are along the shoreline of the HWT offering some of the less traveled lands.

Keweenaw Water Trail - www.keweenaw.org/watertrail.htm - The rugged Keweenaw peninsula, formed of ancient rock, sits surrounded by Lake Superior. This water trail offers paddlers a chance to paddle the peninsula’s entire coastline and visit towns such as Copper Harbor.

Lake Superior Water Trail (MN) - www.lswta.org - The first official water trail on the lake, this water trail goes along much of the rugged and scenic Minnesota shoreline and protects paddlers access to a shoreline that is under strong development pressures.
