Your support is important to developing the trail further. Click here to see how the Hiawatha Water Trail Association (HWTA) is working towards this goal. Here are some ways you can support the HWTA:Multi-colored sandstone cliffs
 Grand Island National Recreation Area

  1. Paddle the trail.
    1. That is what this is all about, getting out on the water and paddling.
    2. By following the recommendations on the Trail Info page about paddling safely and respecting private property, you let the government and private landowners know that paddlers are responsible users.
  2. Fill out our user survey, click here. Currently there is a significant lack of data on trail use. By filling out the survey, you help us generate some basic trail use statistics and additional information which helps us make decisions and plan for the future.
  3. Join the Noquemanon Trail Network (NTN). Click on the trail pass link to go to their membership page.
    • As part of the support the NTN provides to us, they extend their organization’s membership to us. This means we can focus our efforts on the water trail while they handle the administrative end of things.
    • Specify your NTN membership funds to go to the HWTA. This helps us raise funds for the water trail.
    • Support the building of recreational trails in the central UP for non-motorized sports such kayaking as well as XC-skiing, mountain biking, etc.
  4. Volunteer your time.
    • This is what makes things happen and is the core of this grassroots organization. From going out paddling to scout possible campsites, to GIS specialists, graphic artists, foresters, carpenters and other professionals donating services, to talking with units of government, there is a large to do list.
    • Attend a committee meeting to share your ideas and/or apply to become a member.
    • Contact us for more information.
  5. Early season shipping
 Marquettes Upper HarborConsider donating money.
    • 100% of your money goes into the water trail.
    • We are a federally recognized 501c3 non profit organization so 100% of your funds go into the water trail and are tax deductible as well.
    • Click here to link to the NTN page.
  6. Thank a business supporter.
    • The business ads on HWT related information help us get that to you. Thank the business to let them know you saw their ad. Better yet, patronize those businesses and let them know your a paddler. This makes our job easier in selling advertisement.
  7. Contact your elected government official (local, state and federal) to let them know you support our efforts.
    • Thanks to all who have advocated for more recreational trails, we have received support from all levels of government.
